AR
Type
Gene (protein-coding, hormone receptor)
Description
AR (Androgen Receptor) encodes a ligand-activated transcription factor that is the central driver of prostate cancer. Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) targets AR signaling, but resistance universally emerges through mechanisms including AR amplification, AR mutations, constitutively active AR splice variants (e.g., AR-V7), and glucocorticoid receptor bypass. AR-driven transcriptional programs are a major source of phenotypic plasticity in metastatic prostate cancer.
