APOBEC3A
Type
Gene (protein-coding)
Description
APOBEC3A is a member of the APOBEC family of cytidine deaminases. Petljak et al. (2022) established via CRISPR knockout experiments that APOBEC3A is the main driver of somatic APOBEC mutagenesis in cancer — not APOBEC3B as previously believed. Preferentially targets YTCA sequence motifs. Expression inducible by viral infection and inflammatory signaling. In the Fah liver regeneration model, APOBEC3A was the only APOBEC3 paralog to drive hepatocellular carcinoma. Cytoplasmically localized in myeloid lineage cells under normal conditions.
